Steven Michael Gross, 71 passed away on February 10. Mike was a highly creative, free-spirited, and gentle soul who never ceased to be intrigued by the intricate nature of finely honed design, typographical structure, color, and form. Mike had a never-ending love of art, golf, music, conversation, eclectic vests, and hats. He played drums in many local Tucson bands, always with energy, humor, and panache.
His extensive vinyl collection was a treasure trove of epic proportions. He especially loved the Beatles.
Mike graduated from Mesa College with a BA in fine arts and a Master’s Degree in Graphic Design from the University of Arizona.
Mike brought his unique skills to Mcculloc Chainsaw as a creative director, taught graphic design at the Art Center of Tucson, and worked at Tucson Unified School District as a special needs teacher. He also became a caregiver in a variety of group homes.
A native of Denver, Colorado, Mike is survived by sons Noah Walker and Elliot Gross, sister Linda Coughlin, brother Larry Lehman, former wife Leslie Perls, and a large extended family who loved and supported him throughout his journey.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 7 at 10:30 AM at Sanctuary Cove in Tucson.
