Sharon Brunk passed away suddenly on March 24, 2025 at her home in Tucson Arizona. Sharon arrived into this world on October 22, 1948 in Oklahoma City, the only child of the late Bill and Lucille Pearson.
She is survived by her loving Husband Tom of 56 years, Daughter Angela Platt, Son-in-Law Jeff and grandson Hayden.
Sharon grew up In Oklahoma City where she was active but admittedly clumsy. Her summers were spent traveling the country packed in a station wagon with her parents, aunt, uncle and cousins. One of their favorite spots was Avon Colorado where her father, loving the water himself taught her to swim and dive. There she also loved to go horseback riding, her horse, named “Dolly” became a nickname her father would call her until his passing in 1999. Sharon's mother, Lucielle, responsible for packing the snacks, which mostly consisted of potato chips. Anyone who knew Sharon knew her affinity for a good potato chip.
After graduating high school Sharon attended Oklahoma State University where she met and quickly fell in love with Tom Brunk on a blind date her freshman year. They married two years later in 1968. Sharon worked to support them as Tom finished his degree. Sharon went on to finish her schooling at Central State University with a BA in Education. Angela, her daughter came in 1972.
Sharon taught grade school her entire career starting in Oklahoma City, then Albuquerque and finally in Woodbridge, Virginia. She taught all grades 1st thru 5th and remarked that she kept moving down in grades as the kids got bigger. She was creative and artistic, her classrooms revealed that with the time and attention spent on her bulletin boards, most items bought with her own money as were many of the other necessities in the classroom. She had an indelible impact on many young minds.
Eventually retiring in 2002, Tom and Sharon moved to Tucson Arizona, closer to California, where Angela, Jeff and Hayden reside. Thankfully getting to spend many holidays together. While in Tucson, Sharon became very active in The General Federation of women’s clubs, she has served many positions on the GFWC ESO (Epsilon Sigma Alpha) Statewide as State chairman, and her local chapter, Fifth Wheels of Tucson as President, Vice President and was current Secretary. She enjoyed their meetings as well as her monthly get togethers with her fifth wheel friends to play Mexican Train.
Sharon had an eye for aesthetics, she loved interior design, art and fashion. She had impeccable taste, and it showed in her home, her clothing and accessories. Her dry sense of humor and quick wit was appreciated by many and the source of much laughter. She was generous, kind, and thoughtful. The first person to send a card for a birthday, congratulation or condolence, always thinking of others before herself.
Though now she rests in peaceful sleep, Her love, a promise we shall keep. In hearts she touched, her light remains, A star that shines through joy and pains.
