Samuel E Gutierrez Sr, born in Colonias, New Mexico made his journey home to the Lord on December 24, 2020 at the age of 80. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He had 12 siblings and is survived by brothers Frank and Richard as well as sisters Mary Napolitano, Hope Marquez, Teresa Gutierrez and Gloria Gutierrez. He was predeceased by his parents Juan and Elvira Gutierrez as well as brothers Gilbert, Raul, Ezekiel, Ronald, Jimmy and sister Julie Haughton.
Sam set a beautiful example as a life partner to his beautiful wife Lucille. He was a most loving and supportive father. Sam was the proudest Grandfather who loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed walking them to school when they were younger and became very involved in their sports, attending every practice and game he could. A highlight was in 2013 when he was able to travel to Portland Oregon to watch his granddaughter Anacely and son “coach Sam Jr” bring home the Little League World Series Softball Championship win! He was a staple at school and the parks befriending the principal, teachers, parents and players everywhere he went. He delighted in his grandchildren’s academics and job endeavors constantly encouraging them and telling them how proud he was of them. Every year he would spend hours writing heart felt Christmas cards to each of his grandchildren noting his observations of their accomplishments and encouraging them to keep striving and to keep growing in their faith.
He led a Christ centered life, constantly praying for loved ones and always had a devotional candle lit on the kitchen table as a perpetual prayer. He was a man of many hobbies. The most notable was his love of making canes out of golf clubs. He spent countless hours perfecting and customizing unique canes for friends and family. As he made each cane he would pray for that person and included a cross on each cane saying this was his way of spreading Christianity.
He lived God’s word in every way showing us by example to Love and Forgive one another, to be Compassionate because you never know people’s pain, to be Humble and SO much more! He had an awesome sense of humor and made us laugh every single day and was always looking for a silver lining in every situation.
We have been blessed beyond measure to have him in our lives and while our hearts are broken, our hearts also burst with Love and Gratitude for the amazing gift God blessed us with. He leaves a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed by his family and friends alike.
