Roger Stocksdale was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He journeyed to his heavenly home on December 1st, 2023 at the age of 83. Although he lived with lifelong pain after a serious accident, he showed courage in the face of life’s challenges and remained strong to the end. Roger enjoyed a life of robust health, and passed suddenly at home in Tucson, Arizona, after a recent cancer diagnosis.
Valuing hard work, Roger built a 33-year career at Tucson Electric Power, beginning as a ground man, then an apprentice, becoming a journeyman lineman, and being promoted to a sub foreman. He completed his time at T.E.P. as a line patrolman. He spent his youth as a farm worker and helped in his parent’s Ohio restaurant. After his High School graduation, he worked on a ranch in southern Texas, and in 1963, headed
west to join his parents in Arizona. There he met Carol, the love of his life. He was tall, dark, and handsome and she was a lovely little waitress at the Holiday House Cafeteria. Together they raised two children, Kimberly and Todd. Roger and Carol were inseparable for nearly 59 years.
Raised in a Christian home, Roger gave his life to Christ as a teenager at a tent revival meeting. He spent years studying his well-worn Bible and enjoyed old-time Gospel hymns. He would often tell his children and grandchildren, “Jesus loves you, and so do I!” He remained steadfast in faith and we are comforted knowing he is enjoying a heavenly homecoming.
Roger enthusiastically pursued numerous interests. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, tying flies, hiking, and photography. Roger’s garden was a jungle oasis in the desert. He put many miles on their travel trailer, visiting 48 states. The memories Roger made with his family on those road trips are priceless.
Roger was a big man who lived and loved big. He will forever remain a larger-than-life figure in the hearts of those who remain. He is survived by his adoring wife, Carol, loving children, Kimberly (Matthew MacFarlane) and Todd (Julie Stocksdale), eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 4 siblings.
