Robin Merle Thim, 1935 - 2024, 88 years old. Born in Enumclaw, WA to Grace and Hans Thim. He spent his formative years in Enumclaw before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, Air Police Unit 1955- 1959, stationed in Ramstein, Germany.
It was a natural choice for him to join the Tucson Police Dept. after discharge. Rob proudly spent 20yrs. 1959 - 1979, with the TPD and obtained the rank of Sgt. He had many colorful stories of his time and fond memories of all his squad members. Rob was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Police, and served one year as president of Lodge 1; elected to the Public Safety Retirement Board.
Rob imparted his knowledge of police procedure to local author Dave Platt, whose subsequent book “Cat’s Paw” had Rob as “the beefy Sgt. Thim” of the Sheriff’s Dept. (fictional), helping to solve a crime!
While still on the police force, Rob started a water utility company and an insurance agency. Both businesses steadily grew successful and were all consuming after retirement from the TPD.
He owned and operated Thim Insurance, Thim Utility and Thim Water Company. He was a licensed water distribution system operator.
He earned a private pilot license and enjoyed the freedom of the skies. Rob also served on the board of Traffic Survival School, providing office staff; classroom space; securing instructors.
Rob is survived by his wife Mary; brothers Niles and Charles (wife Lynn).
