Bob was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 9,1935 to parents Edna Shorter and Gerald Poquette. Due to the abrupt passing of his mother, he was raised by his beloved grandmother, Ann Dooley. He attended school at St. Theresa’s in Detroit and he joined the Navy at age 17, in 1953. He received his GED during his Naval service. Bob was a veteran of the Korean War and his four years of service in the Navy were of great importance to him.
In his own words, Bob was fortunate in his lifetime to be married to two beloved and beautiful women (not at the same time!).
Jan McCann and Bob were married in 1959 in Detroit, Michigan and they raised three children. They parted amicably and maintained a friendly partnership.
Bob married his second wife, Louise Couch in Tucson, Arizona in 1987 and they were married for 31 years, parting briefly in 2018 only for Lou’s preceding death.
Bob worked for The Bell System (a telephone company endearingly called “Ma Bell”) in Illinois, Michigan, and Arizona from 1960 to 1988. He worked odd jobs until he finally retired at age 62. Music was very special to Bob. He played the harmonica, guitar, and trumpet and had an appreciation for all genres of music. In addition, he and Lou took up acting in Tucson’s annual Simon Peter Pageant for several years which brought them both great joy. Bob also enjoyed staying active and exercised regularly throughout his life. It was in his nature to engage in random acts of kindness and to use humor whenever possible.
Bob was preceded in death by Ann Dooley, Edna Shorter, Gerald Poquette, Marge (Stewert) Rutledge, and Lou Poquette.
Bob Poquette will forever be cherished and remembered by his surviving children: Renee (Andrew) Conners, Felicia Poquette, and Scott (Susan) Poquette. He will live on in the hearts of his grandchildren: Krista Seger, Shawn Poquette, Vincent Poquette, Brandon Poquette, his great grandchild: Emma Poquette, and Lou’s daughter Karen (Bill) Schwiejohn, and other friends and family.
