Rich and I met 35 years ago, in the Spring, at a little restaurant on Broadway named El Parador. Our mutual friend and co-worker at IBM, John, and Rich were sitting on bar stools, as we were introduced. When I shook Rich’s hand, looked into his eyes, I said to myself, this is a nice, kind man. He called and asked me out a few days later. We were married May 7th,1989.
Born in Waukegan, IL on March 12th,1950 to Hazel and Maurice Morgan. Rich was the eldest of 4 siblings. The family moved shortly thereafter to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Brother Daryl was born one year later, followed by the twins Maurice and Maureen. They were a typical baby boomer family.
Rich played clarinet in the Woodworth Junior High Band, and as well in the Goodrich High School band. Rich worked during High School at the local Fond du Lac department store.
After High School Rich decided he needed more money for college and in the summer, he went to work for California Canners and Growers. Rich canned so many “peas” that summer he never cared for peas since. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Rich received his Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Rich never cared for the cold or snow and decided to move out to Arizona. That move prompted a name change, from Dick, as he was known in Wisconsin to Rich. He earned his MBA from the University of Arizona.
The IBM Corporation came to town and hired Rich in 1979 as a Procurement Buyer and then promoted him to Procurement Manufacturing Engineer, where he worked until 1989.
1989 was an event filled year. Rich left IBM, we married, and purchased our home on Avenida del Cazador.
.
Rich discovered Chamberlain Group Incorporated, a Maquiladora in Nogales, Sonora Mexico, where he worked from 1989 thru 2006. As a Procurement Senior Buyer, Supplier Quality Engineer, and Supplier Process Engineer, Rich traveled extensively in the US, in addition to China, Greece, England and Europe. Each morning Rich rose at 4:30am, to join a “fun filled carpool” with Ray, and Pat, arriving in Nogales, Sonora Mexico by 7am. Rich left his desk at 4:30:30pm, and began his trek “across the border” into the USA, arriving home by 7pm.
In 2006, Rich accepted a position with Raytheon Missile Systems as a Supplier Quality Engineer. He remained there until his retirement in December of 2021. During his tenure at Raytheon, Rich loved traveling extensively in the United States, allowing him to accumulate Executive Platinum status.
Rich is survived by his wife, Cynthia, son, Marc Young (Matthew), daughter, Amber Morgan Tjaden, (Andrew), sister-in-law Doris Morgan, sister Maureen Morgan and brother Maurice Morgan (Rondella). Nephews Peter (Stephanie), Paul (Kate), Nieces Christina and Heather. Also survived by many great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Maurice and Hazel, brother Daryl. My grateful thanks to all of you for your love, prayers and support. Thank you for honoring Rich. Love Especially 💕
