The photo shows the old entrance to Wheaton High School (Wheaton, Maryland) where I first met Ray.  As head of the Social Studies Department, I participated in his hiring.  First impressions can sometimes be misleading, but not in Ray's case.  At his interview, his enthusiasm and confidence in wanting to teach at Wheaton, one of the most diverse high schools in Montgomery County, were immediate selling points.  His love of history, especially his knack for story telling, was one of his favorite techniques for engaging his students.  When we needed someone to pickup a semester Law class, Ray jumped at the opportunity to bring his past experiences to the class.  Our school, our department, and the students he taught, all benefited from Ray's eagerness to learn new teaching techniques, his positive attitude, and his quirky sense of humor.  To the Maloney family, my deep condolences.  May Ray rest in peace.

I worked with Ray for many years at Wheaton High School. He helped instill my love of US History and was always telling me interesting stories that would help capture students' attention. Ray was able to captivate his students through his amazing lectures and funny stories. As more and more technology arrived at the school, in term of interactive whiteboards, Ray asked me to help him create a powerpoint.  He was so excited to create his first powerpoint for his class. When he finished he called me over to see what he had made. On his title slide was a large picture of his favorite president to talk about...Richard Nixon.

Ray made us laugh everyday, he was such a joy to be around. A few years ago Eric and I were visiting family in Arizona and met him and his wife for breakfast. It was so great to catch up with him. He will be truly missed. 
We will miss you greatly Ray.
