Patricia Ann (Peters) Stephenson, 88, of Tucson, passed away peacefully at her home in the presence of Roger, her husband of 66 years. A Tucson native, she attended University Heights Elementary, Mansfield Junior High, Tucson High (Class of ’46), and the University of Arizona (Class of ’51), earning a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. Patricia is predeceased by her daughter Carol (Furey), and survived by her husband Roger Sr., two sons Roger Jr. and Brian, and her four granddaughters Maureen (Furey), Lauren, Kristen and Jennifer.
Upon graduating from the U of A, she taught at Wakefield Junior High while Roger served in Libya with the Air Force. She settled in Covina, CA to raise their family and returned to Tucson in 1988, yet still spending summers at their cabin in Forest Falls, CA.
Patricia was an accomplished artist and teacher and had a passion for family genealogy and Tucson history. She co-authored three books including Discovering Mexican Cooking, Tom Marshall’s Tucson, and Trial and Triumph - The Life and Accomplishments of Louise Foucar Marshall. The latter was her most prized work based on 20 years of research from personal photos, diaries, and artifacts bequeathed by Mrs. Marshall to her father Ivan Peters and mother Wilma (Croxen) Peters, who managed her estate from 819 E. First St., the present Mo Udall Center. Her works can be found online at parentseyes.arizona.edu.
In her youth, she was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church on 4th Ave, the Tri Delta Sorority (Phi Beta Chapter) and remained active with PEO, Arizona Westerners, and the Arizona Historical Society. Patricia was loving, energetic, practical and had a zeal for life.
An open memorial service will be held in Tucson at Catalina Foothills Church (PCA), 2150 E. Orange Grove Road, on Friday, February 10th, 10:00. A graveside ceremony for family and friends will be held at East Lawn Palms Cemetery on Saturday, February 11th at 10:30. Arrangements by Dignity Memorial.
