PATRICIA MAY HINES LEE was born in Breckenridge, Texas on June 12, 1927 to Luther Paschal Hines and May Shipley Hines, and died September 19, 2022 at the age of 95 years and three months. Patti was preceded in death by her husband (Sherman) in 2020. They married at the ages of 17 and were married 76 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Michael.
Patti is survived by three children: Gurumeet (Nirvair) Khalsa, Nanci (Frank) Yanes, and Patricia Zeligman (Robert Rosales). Also including eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Patti graduated from Sundown High School in 1944, Valedictorian and graduated from business school in Texas in 1945. In 1963 she graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.S. in Education, and received her Masters in Education in 1967 from University of Arizona. She taught for 26 years in the Tucson Unified School District; teaching grades 1-5 at Van Buskirk Elementary school for 8 years and 18 years at Schumaker School.
Patti was past State President of Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Teachers’ Sorority and State Board member for 10 years. She was also a member of PEO sorority, Chapter AX. Also a member of NEA, AEA, and TEA teachers’ associations.
Patti was very artistic and a fantastic storyteller. She loved painting with oils and watercolor from a young age and continued until 2015. Patti was also a craftswoman in making quilts, knitting, crocheting, and needlework. In 2015, at the age of 88, she wrote a children’s book “Critters Near My Casa” and painted all the illustrations. A book signing party was held and she read the book with the grandchildren listening intently. All her children and grandchildren loved hearing stories about her young years in Texas and stories of her ancestors. With Patti’s passing, her legacy will live on with her family.
