Zack was born in Kingsport Tennessee on April 15, 1963, to Paul W. Lane and Wilma J. (Lane) Fleck. He moved to Tucson Arizona with his family in May 1969 where he attended Palo Verde High School and Cholla High School, graduating from Cholla in 1981. Zack was an extremely talented plumber by trade, working as a service plumber for 13 years with Cummings Plumbing, and later for 22 years at the 162nd Fighter Wing Civil Engineering Squadron, Morris Air National Guard Base in Tucson. Zack was scheduled to retire on May 1st of this year.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents Paul W. Lane, Wilma J. Fleck, and stepfather Clayton D. Fleck.
He is survived by his children, Cheyenne R. Lane, Dalton S. Lane; grandson Emory A. Lane; siblings Jeffrey B. (Cheryl) Lane, Terry L. (Christopher) Valverde, Joseph P. Lane; stepbrothers Timothy (Christine) Fleck, Mark Fleck; one niece Leah (Theodore); nephews Dustin, Tyler (Brianna), Dylan, Jacob; stepchildren Jason Justice (Auburn), Jamie Newman (Patrick); mother of his children Sherri (Perlongo) Lane;
Zack will always be remembered for his love of Christ, family and friends, and his sense of humor. He was a kind and compassionate soul with a loving and generous heart, always giving to others. He had an unmatched passion for life, and his kindness, humor, and uplifting spirit truly set him apart. Whether assisting family, friends, or colleagues with a difficult challenge, or bringing laughter into their lives with his quick wit and comic relief, Zack left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be profoundly missed by all. He was a true provider to his family, and wore his blue-collar jack-of-all-trades distinction as a badge of honor. Zack was also a talented singer, drummer, and harmonica player, so much so, that his musical talents contributed to his band Zo Carroll and the Last Ride winning the 1995 Phoenix Country Music Club of America’s Vocal Group of the Year Award, and subsequently the Country Association of America’s 1995 National New Country Band of the Year Award in Las Vegas. Performing on “The Strip” on a Saturday night, and later signing a record deal with Comstock Records of Scottsdale were among some of his proudest accomplishments. Zack also loved camping and fishing; he could always be found near a lake or a campsite with his family and friends, and had just recently rekindled his love for NASCAR racing, and had also discovered a love for ice hockey. Rest in peace Michael “Zack” Lane, the world will never be the same without you.
