Evelyn is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Robert, her daughter Pamela (Paul), two beloved grandchildren, Erik and Annika, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth, her parents, and her brothers, Hugh and Ray.
Evelyn graduated from Hammond (IN) High School with the school-record typing speed of 85 wpm. Evelyn loved learning, encouraging family and friends in every way as they pursued their education. She greatly supported Bob, who earned a PhD in Agronomy in the early years of their marriage, and Pam, who earned a PhD in Economics. Evelyn worked at the College of DuPage (IL) for fifteen years, where she proudly earned her associates degree with honors.
Before she married the love of her life, Robert, she was employed at Standard Oil (IN). Bob and Evelyn had known each other since they were 10 years old, and their romance blossomed while Bob served in the Korean War. They married while Bob was in graduate school.
Evelyn lived her strong Catholic faith through her daily actions. She loved and supported family, friends, and neighbors near and far; served as a volunteer tutor for local children; actively advocated for those with developmental disabilities; and helped the needy and hungry.
Evelyn particularly enjoyed traveling. She vividly and fondly recalled details of trips to Europe, Africa, and Asia, as well as many RV trips across this country. She visited each of the fifty states, as well as Canada and Mexico.
We will celebrate Evelyn’s 86 wonderful years of life, her strong faith, and the love that she showed for others on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 10 AM, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1800 N Camino Pío Décimo, Tucson, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Peppi’s House (through the TMC Foundation), the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, or a charity of your choice.
