Martin P. Chavez Jr. 94, joined our Lord on Monday, February 17, 2014. He was born in Los Angeles raised in Vinton, New Mexico and became a resident of El Paso, Texas. He enlisted in the Air Corp (Air Force) to serve his country in 1941 through 1945 with an honorable discharge.
After his discharge, he was employed by the Port of Entry in the state of New Mexico as an inspector. Later, starting their own restaurant business the “Southern Café” with his wife in downtown, El Paso, Texas, successfully operated the business for 12 years. He also received his real estate license and worked part time as a realtor. After selling their restaurant business he went to work for White Sands Missile Range. He retired from White Sands Missile Range after 28 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Irene Diaz (Wally) grandchildren, Gina (Jorge) Paul, Michele and Marla (Jason). Great grandchildren are, Alec, Diego, Mateo and Lila. He will be joined in his new life with his son Martin III and his wife Carmen.
Last Blessing and graveside service will be 10:45 am. Friday, March 28, 2014 at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, in El Paso, Texas.
