Mark Edward Thoman was born February 15, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois. He fell asleep in the Lord on Thursday, September 15, 2022 in Tucson, Arizona. Mark was the son of Tasula Petrakis and John Edward Thoman. Mark grew up in Chicago and later the family relocated to Independence, Missouri. After high school, Mark enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and later served in the Navy Reserve as a medical officer. Mark attended Graceland University and graduated from the University of Missouri medical school (Columbia) with an M.D., specializing in pediatrics. He moved his family in 1967 to Des Moines, Iowa to start a pediatric practice. Mark collaborated with other doctors to charter the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology beginning in 1968. He served in various roles and as journal editor. Mark was a member of several medical associations throughout his career and authored hundreds of journal articles. Mark had a love of aviation and became a private pilot working in medical education for the FAA. He met and married Theresa Thompson in 1984 ultimately relocating to Tucson in 2021. Mark will be remembered for his lively and masterful piano skills, and his remarkable wit, humor, and writing skills. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Sue and John Thoman, and sister Barbara Curtis. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Thoman, sisters Nikki Fisher and Lea Acord, along with his children from a previous marriage, Marlisa Thoman, Susan (Larry Schlosser) Thoman, Ed Thoman, Nancy Nucci (Todd Smith), Janet Thoman (Eric Poland), and David Thoman. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mark was a member of the Holy Resurrection Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in Tucson.
