Maria M. Rivera, 88, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2017; surrounded by all her children and loved ones. Preceded in death by her husband Rafael I. Rivera and daughter Francisca “Chica” Rivera. Survived by her son Victor M. Rivera (Joanne), daughters; Patricia Triana, Rosa M. Rivera-Castillo (Lamberto), Yolanda A. Varelas (Eddie) and Marcela Perez. Also many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Maria was born June 24, 1928 in Durango, Mexico in a small village named “Pueblo de los Remedios”. Eventually and against all odds; she made her way north to Nogales, Sonora where she met and married Rafael I Rivera. Together they would settle and make their home in South Tucson in the early 1960’s. She worked very hard throughout her entire life, using some of her skills as a seamstress and cook to contribute towards her family and home. Her true love was her loyalty and dedication to her husband, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed being a fashionista, long manicured nails, dancing, traveling, sewing, cooking, making tamales, novelas, being outdoors and gardening. Her Faith, Principles and Beliefs were firm and unbreakable. She was the true Matriarch of the Rivera Family; a true warrior a “luchadora” that never gave up to challenges or barriers in her life, she always sought to find a way to overcome and succeed; to be proud of humility and grateful of everything. She will forever be in our hearts and truly be missed. “ Te queremos mucho Hippito!”
Memorial services will be held at Funeraria Del Angel South Lawn on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 10:30am
