Madeline May (Genden) Elkin, born Feb. 11, 1926 in South Fallsburg, N.Y. died May 14, 2016 in Tucson, AZ, a few short months after celebrating her 90th birthday! “Maddy”, as many close to her knew her, is survived by her three loving children: Donna Elkin (Diane Feeney), Alan Elkin, Leslie Elkin Leathers (Paul); three grandchildren: Nicole Rose Leathers, Charles Ryan Leathers, Jayden Brooklyn Elkin; and many nieces and nephews in Arizona, California, Florida and New York. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Edward Elkin; and three sisters, Judith Auerbach (Norman), Bertha Gluck (Richard) and Fanny Lyons (Robert).
Madeline attended Fallsburg High School, and later worked for 20 years as Dispatcher for the Fallsburg Police Department. In the 1980s she moved to Tucson and then Cochise to be closer to family. In her heyday, Madeline lit up the room with her stunning looks, flashing smile, fanciful dress, and her wit and charm. Maddy had a life-long love affair with animals, a wonderfully quirky sense of high fashion, a love of music and dancing, an affinity for all jewelry, especially turquoise, and a love of ice cream and chocolate! But mostly, she cherished her family, both immediate and extended, and family parties celebrating holidays and birthdays. While saddened by the loss, we are happy that Madeline is at peace in heaven enjoying the company of family and friends and undoubtedly, dancing the night away….
Services will be held at East Lawn Cemetery at 2pm, Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Gifts of remembrance may be made to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.
