Lowell Lowe, 92, passed away Tuesday October 1, 2019, at Cases Adobes Assisted Living, Tucson, Arizona. Lowell was born April 8, 1927 to Lewis and Ida Lowe, in their home in Conway Township, rural Michigan, the oldest of 4 children.
Lowell served in the Merchant Marines in WWII. He served on 5 different Liberty Ships and sailed to multiple ports in the Pacific. After the war he married Ellen Merignac in February 1950 in Michigan.
Lowell graduated from Michigan State University with an engineering degree in May 1959.
He worked for Harnischfeger Corporation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for 12 years. In 1973 the family moved to Tucson, Arizona where he owned Fluid Aire until he retired in1994. Lowell was involved in The Navy League and Cactus Mariners (Merchant Marine veterans), and also volunteered at the Pima Air and Space Museum.
Lowell was well known for his wood working abilities. He also loved tools, loved pies, loved camping, loved beer and bratwurst.
Lowell is survived by daughters, Colleen (Jeff) Upton of Omaha; Charlene (David) Sanchez of Milwaukee; Renee (Mark) Smerlinski of Tucson. 8 grandchildren, Jenny Coacher, Jeffrey Upton Jr, Maryellen Tiffany, Eric Sanchez, Heather Weber, Rebecca Motta, Lauren Kesteloot and Danielle O’Malley. 11 great grandchildren, Jakob Coacher, Will Coacher, Julia Coacher, Nolan Tiffany, Eliza Tiffany, Paxton Weber, Laurel Sanchez, Korbin Kesteloot, Kenli Kesteloot, Kellan Lowell Kesteloot, and Kaden Motta. 2 siblings, Clara Border and Robert Lowe from Michigan.
Lowell was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother Peter Lowe of Michigan.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Southern Arizona VA Home based Primary Care West team for the wonderful and compassionate care they provided Lowell for the last few years of his life.
