Lois Burkhardt, 86, of Tucson, AZ, went to her Lord and Savior and to join her dear departed husband, the late Glynn G. Burkhardt, on Thursday, January 23, 2014. She was born to the late Edward George Goodwin and Hazel Mary Wilson Goodwin, on June 16, 1927, in Christmas, AZ. She and her family lived for many years in Globe, AZ., where she graduated from high school and trained to apply fabric and dope to aircraft during WWII. In 1946, she married Glynn, her "prince", and they lived their early lives in Globe, Az., Socorro and Albuquerque NM, and then Phoenix, before settling in Tucson in 1955.
Lois relished Arizona history and researching her deep Arizona roots. She loved the flora and fauna of the Sonora Desert. She was skilled in lapidary and an expert in rare native plants. She worked for the family building stone and landscaping businesses, as well as at K-Mart. Lois loved the out-of-doors and enjoyed fond memories of her childhood years hiking and camping in the Pinal Mountains south of Globe and playing softball on Hill Street with her sisters, brothers and friends. She enjoyed music, especially Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals and Lutheran hymns, and she loved to swim. She has resided for the past three years in the loving care of Helen's TLC.
For many years, Lois and her husband were active members of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. In her later years they also worshiped at Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church. She is survived by her three children: Carol Dorsey, of Oxford, MS, Jeannette Burkhardt Pino, of Irvine, CA, and Glynn August Burkhardt, of Tucson, her brother Richard Goodwin, Beaverton, WA, and sister Dorothy Wilson, Odessa TX. She had three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A 10:30 am viewing and an 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service will be held at Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church, 241 N. Harrison Rd. at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 1st. A 12:00 pm Graveside Service will be East Lawn Palms Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church. Arrangements under the direction of East Lawn Palms Mortuary, Tucson, AZ.
