The fourth of five children, Kay was born in January of 1921 in the state of New York. She grew up in the country near the Susquehanna River surrounded by walnut groves, where the family enjoyed winter skiing and blueberry picking in the summer.
Kay graduated in 1939 from the Owego Free Academy in New York and went on to receive a B.S. degree from Cornell University in 1943.
In 1946, Kay married Capt. Clarence Victor, Jr. at her family home, where her uncle, a Navy chaplain, performed the ceremony.
Kay began her professional career after completing a year-long dietetic internship at the former Grassland’s Hospital in Valhalla, New York. Along with being a member of the American Dietetic Association for 54 years, she worked as a Registered Dietician for 18 years at the Veterans Administration hospital in Tucson, AZ.
While in grade school and college, Kay’s favorite sport was field hockey, while her hobbies and interests have included history, gardening, carving and refinishing furniture, ballroom dancing, reading genealogy and traveling.
Kay has also been a member and supporter of numerous organizations and groups including the Woman’s Circle, American Dietetic Association, Tucson Museum of Arts, Cornell Club of Southern Arizona, Human Ecology Association, Cayuga Society in Ithaca New York, Society of the Blind, and a neighborhood garden club.
Kay is survived by her two children William Victor and Carol Santee, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Clarence Victor who passed away in 1993.
A small private family service will be held at East Lawn Palms Mortuary, where she will rejoin her late husband Clarence.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Katherine’s name can be made to the local community food bank, Home for Humanity or to the Christ Presbyterian Church in Tucson, Arizona.
