My Nana
by Greg Lopez
Roadtrips to Las Vegas and strawberry shortcakes at midnight
I’m all out of quarters, may I have more Nana?
Toasted egg and cheese sandwiches on a hot summer afternoon
Can I have some chocolate milk too Nana?
Bingo nights with Tata at the Eagles Club on Stone
Did you win last night Nana?
Harry Carey and your beloved Chicago Cubbies
Holy Cow! They are not very good Nana
Under your blankets with a romance novel in hand
Good night, I’ll see you in the morning Nana
Wind chimes in the breeze and pictures on your door
Where did you put mine Nana?
Christmas shopping sprees with my brother at the toy store
Where does your magic money come from Nana?
A hug on the playground and a special place in the lunch line
I forgot my lunch money today Nana
Over the years, you’ve gone by Julia, Judy and Mrs. Lopez,
But I’ve been blessed to call you my Nana
