Joseph was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on May 1st, 1925 to Manuel Pina and Louise Mendez. He grew up to work various odds and ends types of jobs leading up to his enlistment in the military services in the United States Air force. As all of this took place, he met Olivia Francis Roderick whom became his wife. As he progressed in active duty, his service took him to Stephensville, Newfoundland where God blessed him with the first of his two sons Stephen Joseph. As time progressed, his military service would take him to Europe, Bitburg and Germany; specifically where he then had his second son Jeffrey Craig. His active service then brought him back to the States, where he was stationed at Otis Air force Base; for a number of years. During the Vietnam War, he was deployed to Southeast Asia; where served for 2 years in Bangkok, Thailand. He returned home to Otis Air force Base. Joseph was then deployed to the southwest, specifically Davis-Monthan Air force Base in Tucson, Arizona; where he completed his active service and retired at the rank of Tech Sargent. He then became employed at Hughes Aircraft, where he also attended Pima Community College. He earned a degree in Business Management, where he then moved up the ladder of Hughes Aircraft. He went on to spend 18 and a half years and was forced to retire, due to a heart attack. All the while he and his wife were avid members of Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. He went on to enjoy the fruits of his labor with his beautiful wife of 61 years of marriage.
