I'm terribly sorry for your loss, and I was just informed by Mike Bergen, so wanted to express my condolences.
Joey was a very kind man, and I remember times with him that are very memorable..  I will pray for you guys, because after this life, we will all be reunited again..

I wish to extend my sincerest condolences in the passing of your son. I had the pleasure of getting to know Joe and becoming friends while working at the same company. He was a delight to be around and always had a gentle demeanor about him (which was always a delight). My family and I will pray for both of you (and your family) that God would bring peace to your hearts during this time. Thank you for bringing such a peaceable soul into the world as he truly lighten it for the rest of us, just by knowing him.

I like my other friends posting here, lost touch with Joe but to reiterate what Tim Moga stated, the bonds of our friendship from that time was very special and has never waned. MR.and MRS.Matteson, I'm truly sorry to hear of Joey's passing.although we have all gone are own ways over the years,my early years with Joey and the other guys are still the most special in my heart ! No matter how many years go by, when any of us see one another it just like were back together in the 80's. Dear Mr. and Mrs. Matteson:
I too am so sorry to hear that Joey has passed. One of the best vacations I had was when Joey and I packed up my pickup truck and spent about a month traveling to national and state parks throughout the Western US... together, we saw some of the most beautiful sights on the planet, Yosemite, Bryce Canyon, Yellowstone, the coast in Oregon... we had a blast and that trip is still one I consider to be the best I've ever taken.  I'm glad to have shared it with Joey.  I offer my most sincere condolences to you and all who knew and cared for Joey.  Even though we went our separate ways quite some time ago, I still hold very fond memories of the times we spent together.

Joey and I met at a time in our lives when our only worries were what grades we got in school. I quickly had made a close bond with Joey, Drew T , Tim H, Mike B, John B, Phil T. and combined with the others from Sabino Vista we had a very close group of about 15 friends. We were so lucky to have such great times, and losing any of you really hurt.
9th grade through high school was such a long time ago, but my thoughts of Joey, and this group of which he was at the heart of bring it back like it was just yesterday. Joey was always ready for a camping trip to Mt Lemmon, hiking somewhere, or going on a ski trip with the gang.  I remember the tubing trips we did on the gila, and the salt  river as well. We all did so many of those types of outings on the weekends up until 12th grade. We had a group of really close friends, and he was at the core of it. Those were special times in my life, and I am so glad to have spent so much of that time with Joey.
I never recall him being angry, or in a fight. He was just cool, he was a pleasure to be around. My memories of him are only fond ones. 
 Once the reality of life out of high school hit all of us in our group, we all seemed to go our different directions. Joey and I lost touch around this time, and I had not heard from him until about 9 months ago.I ran into his parents in the grocery store, and  I inquired about Joey. He had come into Tucson just several months after wards and gave me a call. We talked on the phone, getting caught up quickly, and he sounded like he was happy.
 It was good to hear from such an old friend.  Today I just received the sad news of his passing, and it hit me pretty hard: Like I said,  Joey was a special person in a special time of my life, when all that really matter was having fun. Joey really enriched that time for all of us in that group of friends.
   Joey, you will be missed by many; the world was a better place with you in it.

I am so sorry to hear of Joey's passing away. Even though he and I had not seen each other in many years, my memories of Joey and his friendship are warm and I will always treasure them. I pray that God's peace will comfort you during these difficult times.

So sad to hear of Joey's passing. i have many great memories of growing up with Joey. Between 8th and 9th grade I broke my hip while camping and hiking with Joey on a trail above Sabino Canyon and he went and got some help which eventually turned out to be a helicopter from Davis Monthan. I am forever grateful for his actions that day. And there were other hiking and camping trips that had better endings including a trip to Yosemite with his family that continues to be a memory highlight. Other memories include his jaw being wired shut when he was in high school (and he could not eat solids and I was actually jealous because he was basically on a milkshake diet), playing soccer, skiing and tubing the Gila and Salt rivers.

Dear Joey's Family-I opened the paper and saw joey's picture. I am so so sad to read the news. I have such great/wonderful/fun memories of joey and my brother,Kevin, running through the neighborhood on Seneca street. They were such good friends-little buddies playing:hide-n-seek, riding bikes and playing "army" in the desert. My mom has the best picture of them(aroung age of 5)-standing side-by-side, arms around each others necks and both wearing their neckties -as they did each day.  Joey was such a part of my whole families life-on Seneca street, and we have missed your family too. God Bless your family-please know you are in our prayers and we will never ever forget Joey.
