Jody Lynn (Hart) Reed, age 59, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at her home in Tucson, Arizona. She was born in Tucson on January 12, 1958 to Jimmi and Larry Hart. Jody graduated from Amphitheater High School, in May of 1976, and from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in 1980. She married her husband, Dan Reed, in the summer of the same year and the two moved to Eagle River, Alaska, where they stayed for the next thirty years. Jody became an elementary Physical Education teacher in the Anchorage School District, but the last seventeen years of her professional career were spent as the dance teacher at East High School in Anchorage. Jody was, to say the least, an outstanding teacher. She won many awards for her skill, but more importantly, earned the love and admiration of her students and colleagues. Aside from experiencing many adventures both in Alaska and abroad, Jody and Dan adopted two boys who were the loves of their lives. After retiring in 2010, Jody and Dan moved to Marana, Arizona, where Jody became both a Zumba instructor as well as a dance teacher at Pointe Of Grace Dance Studio in Marana. Jody loved to exercise, often dancing to Zumba and taking PiYo classes up to seven times per week. Fitness, for her, was a way of life. In addition, she enjoyed reading, traveling and shopping. The thing that Jody loved best though was spoiling and loving her two grandsons. Jody was diagnosed with Glioblastoma (a stage IV cancer) in May of 2016. She battled ferociously against it for an entire year before finally succumbing. There will be two memorial services for Jody. The first event will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Northminster Presbyterian Church (2350 E. Ft Lowell Dr. Tucson, AZ) at 10:00 am. The second event will be held at the East High School Auditorium on Monday, June 19, 2017 (time undetermined). Jody is survived by her husband Dan; her sons, Timmon and Tucker Reed; her brother, Gary Hart; daughter-in-law, Brejon Lana Reed; and grandsons, Jamare and Zechariah Reed. In lieu of flowers, Jody requested that participants at her memorial bring a white flower. Donations could be made either to Unicef or to World Vision.
