Joann D. Bowen, 89, passed away on Feb. 4, 2015, in Tucson, AZ. She was born June 30, 1925 to Myrtle G. and Edgar G. Brown. She was adopted by her aunt and uncle, Lula P. and Exter M. Dietrich on May 13, 1929 after the death of her brother Paul and the sickness of her father. In addition to Paul who died at age 6, she had an older sister, Vivian and a younger sister Mary Belle. Joann worked for the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Mines as a foreign national training specialist where she coordinated training of foreign nationals. In 1969, she married Calvin Bowen. The couple began collecting antiques, a hobby that quickly turned into a successful business: The Magpie’s Nest. Joann is survived by son, Gary A. Truex; daughter, Louanne T. Christian and spouse Edward L Christian; stepson, Fred Bowen and spouse Anna; grandchildren, Felix Edward Christian and Jennifer Kitty Bowen and great grandchild Luna Joann Bowen. Joann was predeceased by her parents, sisters and brother; first husband, Fredrick Allen Truex; second husband, Calvin Bowen and longtime companion Jack Keeney. Arrangements entrusted to East Lawn Palms Mortuary and Cemetery, Tucson, Arizona.
