Jean McKee Blackwell, a longtime Tucson resident, died peacefully in her sleep on October 14, 2015. Jean was born in Detroit Michigan on December 3, 1920. Her Father, Forest McKee, was the founder of Overhead Door Company. Jean was an accomplished pianist who, at the age of 16, wrote music that was played by the Detroit Symphony. Jean was a graduate of Oxford University and held a Baccalaureate degree in music.
Jean grew up in Detroit Michigan before moving to New York City in 1954 to pursue her love of music composition. She met and married Jerry Blackwell in 1958 and they would soon relocate to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Jean and Jerry welcomed their only son, Forest McKee Blackwell on October 26, 1964. In 1967, the family relocated to Tucson.
Jean lived her life with grace and loving those around her, particularly her grandchildren for whom she was so proud. She was an avid reader and collector of miniature books. She travelled the world and had a special love for Scotland where she travelled annually.
Jean is survived by her grandson, Cameron McKee Blackwell of San Diego and her granddaughter, Emily Jean Blackwell of Los Angeles as well as many friends who loved her. Jean is preceded in death by her son, Forest McKee Blackwell and her grandson Collin McKee Blackwell.
Services to celebrate Jean’s life will be held at East Lawn Mortuary on Saturday, October 24th at 2 p.m. In Jean’s memory, the family will cherish cards or notes with your memories of Jean and how she touched your life.
