STROHMEYER, James Scott “Jim”, was called home to his Savior on Friday, January 31, 2020. Jim was born on November 10, 1948, in Altoona, PA. Tucson became home to him in 1957, after moving from PA, along with his parents and brother. After graduating from Rincon High School, he attended the University of Arizona, but later left school to begin a career in retail business. He managed Gallant-Carroll Hardware for many years. He eventually went to work for SEBRA, in the shipping and receiving department.
Jim was a gentle, loving, generous man. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1973. He was faithful to his Lord, and touched many, many lives while volunteering his time as a worker in his church. He loved working with children, and especially loved working in AWANA and Junior Church.
He lived a frugal life, and almost always put the needs of others ahead of his own. He was a kind man, who was extremely generous to his family, friends, and even strangers. He always made birthdays and holidays special for others.
He loved animals, especially dogs and cats, and adopted (and rescued) many fur babies throughout the years. He loved taking his beloved dog, Star to the dog park whenever he could.
Jim loved his family. Though he never had any children of his own, he was an amazing Uncle to his nieces and nephews.
He loved to read, especially his Bible, but also loved books about the Southwest and loved good mysteries. He had a quick wit and a dry sense of humor, and loved to use those gifts often. He also loved to write, particularly notes to family and friends. He always seemed to express his heart beautifully through written words.
Jim is survived by his sister, Becky (John) Cutright, his sister-in-law, Paula Strohmeyer, his nephews, Eric Strohmeyer, and Michael (Wendy) Strohmeyer, and nieces, Katie Means, Jennifer (Bobby) Suba and Lauren (Daniel) Taylor. He is also survived by his great nephews, A.J. Hatfield, Jonathan Strohmeyer, Evan Strohmeyer, Titus Suba, Micah Suba, Landon Means, Greyson Means, and his great nieces, Samantha Strohmeyer and Addison Taylor. He is also survived by Aunts Elizabeth Baish of Altoona, PA, and Kitty Strohmeyer of Chandler, AZ, and many cousins in both states, and by a host of friends-who-were-like-family. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack & Betty Strohmeyer, his brother, John Strohmeyer, and great nephew, Haiden Means.
Our family thanks the wonderful care-givers at Fellowship Square, where he resided until August of 2019. We’re especially thankful for the amazing care-givers of Park Senior Villas (Houghton location), where he resided from August until his death. And we also thank Agape Hospice, for their compassionate care of Jim (and our family) as he dealt with the end stages of Parkinson’s Disease.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Monday, February 10, at East Lawn Palms Mortuary Chapel, 5801 E. Grant Road, Tucson, AZ, 85712. There will be a viewing for family & friends starting at 9 a.m., with a service at 9:30. Graveside service will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the PACC Animal Shelter, Tucson Baptist Church or Gospel Rescue Mission.
