James “Jim” Edgar Green was born on February 28, 1936 in Towanda, Pennsylvania, and was promoted to Glory on March 28, 2020. He was preceded to heaven by Edith Smales Green, his wife of 56 years, by his parents Daniel and Mary Green, his son Gary Green, his grandson Riley Rask, and his step-son Chad Lange. He is survived by his loving wife Kathy Green and his children, Denise Scarrow (Dan), Jim (Kris), Terry (Kathy), Laurie Rask, Don (Jolene), Mary Blosser (Ray), and Lori Green, and step-daughters Kristen Lange and Danielle Mimbs (Marshall). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, his brothers Dale Green (Dorothy) and Ron Green (Jenny), and his sister Maryann Johnson. Jim graduated from Towanda High School and joined the United States Air Force in 1954. He met his wife Edith when stationed in Paris, and they were married there in 1956. He received his undergraduate degree from Washington State University and his Master’s degree from the University of Arizona. They lived many places during Jim’s time in the Air Force, including being stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson several times. He retired from the Air Force in Tucson, and then went on to teach at Rincon High School, serve in the State Legislature for six years, returned to education as the principal of Dodge Traditional Magnet Middle School, and serve as a Pima County Justice of the Peace for many years. Jim was passionate about sports – playing basketball and baseball, running, biking, and skiing, and cheering for his favorite teams as well as his kids, grandkids, and great-grand kids – but His greater love was for serving the Lord Jesus Christ. Wherever the Air Force took him, he actively served in local churches. He considered Tucson Baptist his home church, where he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and men’s choruses, served as Sunday School Superintendent and business manager, and in many other capacities. Jim met Kathy Lange at Tucson Baptist. After the deaths of their spouses, their friendship developed into love and they were married in 2013. They enjoyed living in Tucson and the lovely White Mountains, and they loved traveling together across America and to Europe and Israel. Memorial services cannot yet be scheduled but are planned for Jim at Tucson Baptist Church and at Faith Baptist Church of Show Low, where Jim and Kathy became charter members when they moved to Show Low in 2019. Interment will be private. The family requests that any donations be made to the building fund of Faith Baptist Church of Show Low, Arizona.
