Jack A. McFarland was born in Madison County Tennessee to J.D. and Effie (Maberry) McFarland and died on June 24, 2014. Jack lived to be 82 years old spending the last 38 years in Marana, Arizona where he was known as a helpful neighbor, past member of the Avra Valley Fire District Board of Directors and a member of the Avra Valley Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Jack leaves behind a large and loving family legacy including his wife and soul-mate of 61 years Annie M. (Jones) Mcfarland, brother Jimmy and wife Joann, brother Larry and sister Mary Grace Breshears.
Jack also leaves behind his two children Jackie (McFarland) and her husband Andy Tryon along with their four Adult children and six great grandchildren and son Richard McFarland and his wife Cheryl along with their four children three great grandchildren.
Jack also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and numerous children through the years who lovingly referred to him as “Daddy Jack”!
Jack proudly served his country in the United States Army for 27 years including volunteering during war time for a combat tour in Korea as well as volunteering for the Infantry. During his several enlistments Jack earned numerous awards and medals while serving in the 25th Infantry Division known as the “Tropic Lightning” including the coveted blue Infantry Cord, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star with the “V” device for Valor under extreme war time conditions, two awards of the Order of the Purple Heart, one for being wounded and refusing to be evacuated to medical aid in order to continue to fight with his Unit who were extremely depleted with no replacements and under enemy fire. Jack also received the Army’s Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Army Occupation Medal in Japan, and the Korean Service Medal with five Bronze Stars. After 27 years of distinguished service both oversees and in the Continental United States, Regular Army and the Arizona National Guard, Jack retired by Honorable discharged as an exemplary Senior Non-Commissioned Officer.
Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Effie G. McFarland, father J.D. McFarland, brother Joe McFarland, sister Dorothy Jean (McFarland) Wright and brother Robert David McFarland.
A visitation will be held Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and funeral service will start at 10:00 a.m. with a graveside service to follow at East Lawn Palms Mortuary and Cemetery.
