Gloria Jean Carter Williams was born June 6, 1938, in Kansas City, KS. She passed away March 27, 2022 in Tucson, AZ. Gloria attended Thunderbird Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Academy, Scottsdale, AZ and graduated from Licensed Practical Nursing School, Tucson, AZ. She continued her education and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mississippi Valley State University, Itta Bena, MS and a Bachelor of Science in Mental Health from Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA.
On December 22, 1962, she married Ernest Johnny Williams Jr. in Lordsburg, NM and traveled as a military spouse around the world. In addition to Tucson, AZ, she lived in Glasgow, MT; Rantoul, IL; Itta Bena, MS; Okinawa, Japan; and Atlanta, GA before returning home to Tucson, AZ in 2008. Gloria worked as a Registered Nurse at Georgia Regional Hospital before retiring from Georgia State Mental Health Agency in 1998.
Gloria grew up in the Sharon SDA Church, Tucson, AZ and was blessed as a superb soprano soloist. She was a member of the church choir and the Bel Cantos vocal group in the 1960s. She was frequently called upon to sing during city-wide SDA revival services in Tucson. While residing in Itta Bena, MS She attended Greenwood SDA, Greenwood, MS and while in Atlanta she was a member of the Berean SDA Church and its choir.
Gloria was preceded in death by her mother Fannie Belle Carter Miller and uncle Walter Carter. She is survived by her son Ernest Michael Williams, daughter Michelle Denyne (Williams) Jones, son-in-law Reginald Quintin Jones, grandsons Corey Quintin Jones, Cameron Michael Jones, granddaughter Camille Belle Jones, ex-husband Ernest Johnny Williams, Jr., sister-in-law Annette LaDoriss (Williams) Asrade and many dear family and friends.
