Born on August 1, 1938 as the only daughter of Frank and Hedwig Boquoi she grew up in Whitestone, New York and was known as “Nancy” to everyone.
On March 16, 1961 she married her husband, Henry Wendel, and they became partners and best friends for the next 54 years. Together, they had two children, Karen in 1962, and David in 1965. She experienced the joy of seeing both her children married and later the joy of becoming a grandmother to Karen’s children with Frank Koone, Jr. (deceased); Michelle in 1988 and Michael in 1993; and David’s children; Jennifer in 1994 and Jason in 1997. She loved Henry, her children, and grandchildren dearly.
Nancy obtained a Master’s Degree in Counseling and served as a Mental Health / Drug Prevention Counselor with the New York City Public School System from 1984 to 1992 working with adolescent children. After moving to Arizona she joined and served in many high ranking positions with Hadassah and served as the Tucson Chapter President in 1998. During this time she started the “Read/Write” Program in Tucson and worked with countless children in the Tucson area. Nancy’s unconditional love and unwavering support was also instrumental in Henry’s success as an accountant, business owner and financial advisor. Her willingness to give all of herself to others remains an inspiration to her children, Karen and David.
She loved the scenic natural beauty of Tucson and its beautiful mountains, especially the Catalina’s, which stand tall behind you. To her family and friends, they will never forget her contagious smile and laugh, her singing and humming, her passion for travel and meeting people from around the world, museums, and her love of all types of animals especially cats (big and small), cookies, ice cream, chocolate, stuffed animal toys, all types of flowers and plants, and for taking photos. But beyond all that, Nancy will be remembered for her heart and empathy for others. It was as big as the sky and she would open it to anyone and everyone. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Hadassah of Tucson.
