Fay McCormick, age 86, went to be with the Lord on December 16, 2017. She was a Tucson native, born on July 1, 1930 and raised on a chicken farm on Country Club Rd, north of Grant, where they raised chickens, goats and sold eggs to local markets. Fay attended Sam Hughes Elementary, Catalina Jr. High and Tucson High School. She went on to the U of A, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Education, starting her teaching career with the Morenci Public Schools. Then on to Casa Grande Public Schools teaching physical education until joining the Air Force in 1958 as a 2nd Lt. Her 21 year tour included serving in Austin, TX; Puerto Rico; Merced, CA; Mildenhall, England; Almagordo, NM; and Fort Walton Beach, FL, as a Personnel Management Officer, retiring as a Major. Returning to Tucson she continued to teach as a substitute teacher with Tucson Unified School District for 13 years and also coached the girls’ tennis team for four years at Cholla High School. Fay was a member of the Pilot Club International, serving on the local and national levels in Florida and in Tucson. She was part owner of a Fitness Center catering to mature adults until 2014 and has been a lifelong member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. Fay is survived by her many friends and will be missed by her good friend Sandy Lauver and caregivers, Josie Monreal and Terri Allen who have cared for her for the past two years. In lieu of flowers she has requested a memorial be created at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Arrangements under the direction of Funeraria Del Angel South Lawn, Tucson, AZ.
