Evelyn was born in Brooklyn, New York to Margaret and Irving Katz on January 16,1930. She graduated from New Utrecht High School, in the Bensonhurst neighborhood in Brooklyn. She married Morton Mintz, when she was 18 years old. She worked as a travel agent, office receptionist and in retail. Evelyn enjoyed socializing with friends, knitting, reading, tennis, swimming, and cooking.
Evelyn especially loved living a block from the ocean in Long Beach, New York, where she and Morty raised their three daughters. Evelyn enjoyed traveling, which included visiting her children while they were living in Europe. She especially loved visiting her mother’s birthplace, Budapest, Hungary, and her father’s birthplace, Vienna, Austria. Evelyn and Morty moved to Tucson Arizona in 1973. Evelyn lived in Tucson for 46 years.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters: Karen Wedick, Darlene Dickey, and Connie Mintz and her niece Elizabeth Roman and family.
Grandchildren: Grant Mortimer, Jesse Wedick, Matthew Wedick, Rebekah Wedick, Sarah Wedick, Mike Wedick, Starshine Shirley, Michael Dickey, John Dickey and 11 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Morton Mintz; Sister, Phyllis Katz Burrows; Grand children, Gabriel Dickey, and Lancelot Dickey; Great grandson, Christopher Dickey.
Family and friends may attend Evelyn's funeral, burial, and reception at East Lawn Palms Mortuary and Cemetery on September 5th at 9:00am with Rabbi Dr. Scott B. Saulson, of Temple Emmanuel officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one or more of these Tucson organizations which supported Evelyn for many years while she lived independently in her own home. The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to:
