Elma (Lotz) Briggman, 89 of Tucson, Arizona was born on March 29, 1935 on the family farm near Toronto, Kansas. When Elma was six years old, her mother and stepfather moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she attended elementary and secondary schools. After graduation from high school, she married and began raising her family.
While her 6 children were growing up, Elma became involved in scouting as a Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader while working at various jobs. She primarily had two careers, first as a restaurant hostess and later as a secretary/receptionist. Elma loved gardening, hand sewing and crafts of various kinds and was especially adept at embroidery. She also enjoyed camping with family and friends. After retiring from work Elma enjoyed bowling and taking care of her grandchildren.
Elma was preceded in death by her mother Pearl Felkins and stepfather Lemro Felkins, her husband Bernard Briggman, one daughter Margaret Sanders and a son-in-law Howard Carlson. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Fred and Joan Felkins, her sister and brother-in-law Louise and Ray Doyle, by her son Damian Whalen and daughters Pamela Boland, Ramona McCane, Carolyn Carlson, Edith Sickman and son-in-law Chuck Sickman, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Family was most important to Elma and she would likely say that her greatest achievement in life lay in her children. She had a particular knack for holding babies when they were a bit fussy. And she would always say “yes” to a bowl of ice cream.
