Born in Cupar, Saskatchewan on September 17, 1923 to Hungarian immigrants, Betty was raised on a prairie farm. Strong, and fiercely independent, she moved to Tucson in 1957 and proudly became a U.S. citizen in 2001.
An extremely hard worker, she held multiple jobs throughout her life, often at the same time—an expert mixologist at Manny’s Hoof n’ Horn, a meat wrapper for small independent grocery stores throughout Tucson, and selling freezers door-to-door in the surrounding areas.
An intelligent and savvy business woman, in the 1980s she opened Betty’s Figure Salon in Silver City, NM, which she operated until retirement returning to Tucson 2009.
Always active, she loved fishing, cooking, and gardening. She had a great love for her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Of her family, she was the last surviving child of eight siblings, and was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Jack M. Alexander; daughters, Diane Brown and Joyce Gibson; grandson, Eric Sabo and great grand son, Chase Worden. She is survived by sons, John W. Sabo, Gerald A. Sabo and Dan Sabo; daughters, Kathy Weller and Debbie Sabo McCabe; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
