Edwina LaFalle Brown was born September 08,1937, in Fort Worth, Texas, to her father, Edward C. Mays, from Mexia,Texas, and mother, Virgil Mae Collins, from Greenville, Texas. In conjunction with her
parents, family, friends and loved ones, she helped establish what is known as The “A” Mountain community in Tucson, Arizona. While working as a cook in the family diner she was known for serving up “food for the soul”, making a name for herself with the locals. As a woman of God, she was always active in the church and was baptized at Gideon Baptist Church, where she was able to happily and faithfully serve for over 40 years as Deaconess, alongside her husband, Deacon George E. Brown.
As a loving wife and mother to her son, Darnell E. Patterson-Brown, Edwina traveled the world with her family, following her husband as he served in the United States Air Force. Edwina dutifully worked for the Commissary on Davis Monthan Air Force Base and retired after 20 years. Throughout her life, in school, work and church, she cultivated many friendships that would play a vital role in the happiness she experienced in her life for many years, as she appreciated the world’s diversity and universal language of love and kindness.
Edwina’s son, Darnell, and daughter-in-law, Victoria M. Patterson blessed her with two grandchildren, Nicole Patrice Patterson (Caprio) and Nolan Edward Patterson. She was a loving grandmother as well as a great-grandmother of 2 beautiful young ladies, Mikayla Nicole Flannigan and Loryn LaFalle Flannigan. Both girls are living embodiments of their great-grandma as seen through the way they exude Edwina’s sense of self-confidence, strong will and personality.
She leaves behind so many, left to cherish her memory: her husband, George E. Brown; granddaughter, Nicole P. Patterson (Caprio); a grandson, Nolan E.
