Edilia Alvarez Abbott 84, went to be her Lord and Savior on December 29, 2011, in her home surrounded by loved ones. Edilia (Chata) was born in Tucson, Arizona on September 4, 1927. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Josefina Alvarez and her husband, George J. Abbott. Edilia is survived by her son, Fred Figueroa; daughter, Viola Majuta (Raymond); grandchildren, Geno Majuta (Michelle), Alissa Majuta, Yvonne Perez (Martin), Fred Figueroa (Marie) and Marcos Figueroa; great-grandchildren, Shanessa, Genna (Jon), Geno, Alyssa, Aarynn, Angel (Joe), Alicia, Alexis and Alina; great-great-grandchild, Adrian and her church family at Midvale Christian Center. Edilia loved, traveling, cooking, pajama days, the smell of rain in Tucson, roosters, chickens, teddy bears, the Wildcats, keeping in touch with friends and family she loved, the Mi Nidito, family gatherings, and most of all, her grandchildren. She worked as a property manager and in retirement, a school crossing guard at Oyama Elementary where she adopted many more grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, nana, aunt, nina, and friend. Her love and friendship was truly a gift to those who knew her and she will be forever remembered and missed. A Funeral Service will be held at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E Grant Rd., on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Visitation one hour prior at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.
