Donald R. Mangold, age 91, passed away on Monday evening, October 3, 2016. He was the beloved husband for 28 years of Ann Strug Mangold. He was a loving father to Chris Mangold and wife, Kathy, Georganna Howell (deceased), Andrea Winslow and Mischel Cox and husband, Jim. He is survived by six grandchildren, Bobby, Ryan, Melissa, Annie, Joshua and Jacob as well as five great- grandchildren, Spencer, Carson, Brody, Makayla and Ali. Don is survived by a sister, Janet King. In addition to his immediate family, Don was close to his wife's brother and sister-in-law, nieces, nephew, their spouses, and children, as well as his dear friends who were like family to him.
Don was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and grew up in Cheviot, Ohio. He attended St. Martin's and then Elder High school before moving on to Indiana University, the Navy, and Xavier University. He was an active athlete, playing football and baseball for Elder High school, football at Indiana University under Coach Bob McMillan, and in the Navy under Coach Paul Brown. He continued playing in city baseball leagues until the mid 50's.
Don spent his working career in retail and then manufacturing. He was first with May Company Department Stores as a store manager and then a buyer. Don then joined Billy the Kid as an executive over sales. He retired in 1990. He was active in numerous service organizations and continued in retirement with Rincon Rotary. Don enjoyed exercise, sports, reading, and the company of family and friends. He made a great effort to stay in contact with all his friends, no matter where their lives took them.
Don's family would like to thank his caregiver, Lupe Ornelas and his doctors for all they did for him. Services are private. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Lung Association.
