Dolores Marie Sharpe (Haas), 85 of Tucson, Arizona, left us on Monday, May 21, 2018 at 6:01 a.m. Her death was from natural causes. Dolores was born on January 13, 1933 of Viola M. Haas and Lester Haas Sr., in Belleville, IL. She was a graduate of Pekin High School in 1951. She joins her parents and brother, Lester Haas Jr. in death.
In high school she was a cheerleader, and member of Tap Club, Austria Club, Spring Frolic, Girl’s Club, and G. A. A. . In her yearbook it stated “A whiz at sports – She’s an all-American!” She was a proud member of ΒΣΦ. She married Stan M. Sharpe soon after high school. Dolores was an extremely dedicated hard worker. She was both physically and mentally strong. Dolores was also fearless. There was no obstacle in her life that she did not face head-on. She held positions in many occupations from secretary to insurance underwriter. Once home from work, she loved to work in her garden, which she continued enjoying well into her retirement. For most of her life, she had tireless energy. Dolores attended St Paul’s Church of Christ in Pekin, IL, then the Sedona Church of Christ, and finally West Congregational Church in Phoenix, AZ. She read “Upper Room” and the accompanying scriptures as a part of her daily devotion. Her greatest achievement in her words was her three children. To quote Dolores, “I live for my children, I have devoted my life to them.” She also loved her animals. Most recently, her beloved Tara, a Boxer rescue who was always by her side. Dolores had to send her over the Rainbow Bridge in March of this year. There is no doubt her countless animals greeted her in Heaven.
To know Dolores was to love her. Everyone who met her immediately felt her warm and caring personality. She was a great listener (Grandma always said keep your mouth shut so people have no idea how smart you are), and all of the people in the hospital/skilled nursing/home health care/hospice always commented how absolutely sweet and precious she was and how lucky we were. While Dolores was fiercely independent, she would help anyone who needed her in any way she could. She always forgave and always had a smile. Dolores was also as ornery as they come. The more she teased you the more she liked you.
Her only disappointment was that she could not spend more time with her grandchildren.
Dolores is survived by her children and grandchildren: David A. Sharpe (Gina), Jordan and Kendall of Gilbert, AZ; Diane M. Dean (David) of Tucson, AZ; Dawn J. Molenaar (Joel), Bjorn and Lars of Mesa, AZ, as well as her Cousin Kay Lock and family in IL, nieces Laurie and Leslie Haas also in IL, and niece Kathy Finley of Scottsdale, AZ.
The celebration of her life will take place on June 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at East Lawn Palms Cemetery on 5801 E. Grant Rd., Tucson, AZ. Her inurnment will immediately follow. You may call her daughter, Diane M. Dean at 520.419.0293 if you need any further information.
Every time we would say “I love you”’ she would reply, “I love you more.”
We sincerely thank everyone who touched Dolores’ life. She truly was precious, loving and determined.
She is with her mother now, in a better place, and no longer in pain. We love you, we miss you dearly. We know you will watch over us for the rest of our days. We will see you again.
