He was born in El Paso, Texas on November 2, 1945 to Norene and Leaden Posey of Animas, New Mexico. He lived in Animas for nine years and moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico in 1954, graduating from Alamogordo High School in 1963. He continued his education at New Mexico State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1967.
Like many in his family, Dennis was a career railroader. He worked 35 years as a railroad engineer and loved most every minute of it. He once described the rush of operating a train as being very similar to a pilot operating a large aircraft. Outside of work, he enjoyed working on home improvement projects, traveling, spending time with his family and hound dogs, and he was a 32nd degree Master Mason. He also had a passion for growing and tending to many types of plants. As an avid morning person, much to the dismay of his two boys, he enjoyed many Arizona sunrises over hot cups of coffee. Having spent over 40 years in Tucson, he especially loved the summer monsoons.
His life would seem too short to many, but those he touched understood that the quality of life far exceeds the quantity. His loving wife of 20 years, Lu Ann, survives him along with his two sons Justin and Brandon, daughters-in-law Jennie and Amanda, brother Hyram, sister-in-law Lori, and twin sister Dena. His parents and grandparents, who we know are waiting for him, preceded him in death.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM with the memorial service following at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at East Lawn Palms Mortuary, 5801 E Grant Road, Tucson, Arizona.
