Dan was born on October 19, 1949, in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, to H.G. and Muriel Dorland. He graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1967. Over the years, he worked in the Nebraska oil fields, at the Homestake Gold Mine, and as the owner of the O-K Print Shop. He later found success as a salesman in Tucson, Arizona, where he ultimately settled.
On February 14, 1969, Dan married Donna Shoop, and together they raised three wonderful children.
Dan loved traveling, photography, and playing cards. Family was central to his life, and in retirement, he especially cherished time with his grandchildren. After moving to a 55-plus retirement community, Dan became an active volunteer, devoting countless hours to making meals and supporting his neighbors.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Donna; his children, Michael Scott (Jessica) Dorland, Michelle Dawn (Ben) Dell, and Michayla Sue (Neil) Matthiessen; and his grandchildren: Dune Roschlau, Cyrus Roschlau (Heather & Joey), Thyme Roschlau, Ivy Dell, Brook Dell, EllieMarie Dorland, AliceMarie Dorland, Seth Matthiessen, and Ian Matthiessen. He is also survived by his siblings: Terry Dorland, Louis Dorland (Susie), Dianne Dorland, Deborah Dorland, and Thais Armstrong (Howard).
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dan's life will be celebrated on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m., at the Clubhouse at Rincon Country Mobile Home Park, 3411 S. Camino Seco, Tucson, AZ.
