I'm one of his grandsons. Cody, or as I called him Papa Cody growing up, was always fun to be with. I was often at their house as my mother was often ill, somy grandma Nova-Dee (Mama Dee) and him would have me at their house in Tucson, AZ. He and I would often have long conversations that span hours into the night. What we would talk abut was just things we thought about. The exponential growth of technology, society, science, anything really. I can't see him again in this life but I can at least continue showing others the same kindness and compassion people got from him. 

Thank you all for your kind words you all said about him. I really do miss him. 

I was a runner on Coach Mothershed's Cross Country team and my parents had recently separated and we had no money to even pay our utility bills and he offered to pay for a hair cut for me, but I explained my mother would not allow her sons to accept charity.  Rincon provided cheap shoes for practice and all of the other runners had Adidas, but I had to use the practice shoes in meets.  One day Coach Mothershed said he needed to talk to me after practice.  While we talked he tried on a new pair of Adidas' shoes and then said "Dammit" and threw the shoes in the garbage, saying his wife bought the wrong size and he couldn't return them.  As he walked away, he said, "You can try them on and if they fit, you might as well keep them." I did.  They did and I used them for the rest of my High School career.  I didn't realize for years what he had actually done, but when I did, I recognized it was in keeping with the man I knew.  With an absent father who never liked me, I needed someone to teach me what it meant to be a man and he was the perfect model.  In my life, I have never met anyone more decent, caring or wise.  I only wish I had told him this when he was alive.

Just learned of his passing. He was my P.E. teacher at Mansfeld Jr. High around 1956, and a true gentleman he was. Intelligent, kind, thoughtful and funny. He was a fine role model and I learned from his example.

He was a great teacher and a great man.  I miss already.

I had the pleasure, in the not to distant past, of meeting this man. We discussed more topics than were spoken.His love for education and coaching was inspiring. But, his overall demeanor, knowledge, humility and attention left with me a great impact. He did it right.. I admire him..A symbolic model for us all

I will never forget all the time I spent at the Mothershed home on Eli. Mr. Mothershed always sitting in his chair in the family room watching whatever game was on. You will be missed by many as Sue will be.

I never had the honor of meeting your dad, but he must have been a wonderful role model and father.  You walk in his footsteps and your kindness, integrity and humor keep his memory alive.  I am so sorry for your loss.  May your family find peace knowing that your Dad is home with God.

Great Uncle Cody, you will be missed on this planet. May you continue your journey through the universe making more marks of kindness as you travel.

Mr Mothershed attracted the athletes who won the State Cross country championships in 1961 and1962. He allowed us to learn to enjoy running, so that training was fun. This was not so for every high school coach.

Cody was like a father to me and a great family friend. What a awesome swim coach who taught me at Green Hills.  Whenever I drive by Green Hills pool I always think of him.  Rest in Peace Mr. Mothershed

Mr. Mothershed was a superb human, great coach and motivated teacher. I have thought of him often over the past five decades. I admired him for his kindness, dedication and guidance.

Cody was our swim coach and lifeguard at Kingston Knolls Pool many years ago.  I will always remember him as a kind and patient guardian.  Such a gentleman.  He taught so many of us how to swim, and did it with grace.  To all his family and friends, there are many of us who were lucky to learn from such a fine educator and gentleman.

My uncle Cody was one of a kind.  He was an awesome teacher & coach .  He taught with grace and understanding, always with the hope of helping his students or athletes do their best.  He was an awesome man and a wonderful husband and father.  We all Love and miss him greatly, go with God.  R.I. P.

Mr.Mothershed was my favorite instructor at Pima. I always sought out availability in his classes for my sciences. My codolences. He was a light for many.

What a great coach and teacher at Rincon. Go home Coach and get heaven into great physical shape.
