Barbara Diane Richardson

Barbara Diane Richardson passed away peacefully on July 29th, 2023 at the age of 79. She will be remembered as being a very loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by many family and friends.

Barbara was born June 4th, 1944 and raised in Tucson, AZ. She had very strong bonds with her sister and brother and many cousins throughout her life. Her early adult years were spent raising children and being very active with her many grandchildren.

In 1962 she married Donald Slemmer and had two children, Tom and Darla. During their sixteen year marriage, they enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and water skiing. During that time, she went to night school and became a medical assistant and worked in the health care industry for many years. They had many friends and were socially active in Bunco and family sporting events.

In 1980, she married John Hunnicutt and added his two children Jennifer and John as part of her family.

They were married for 25 year, they traveled and had a second home in Nutrioso, AZ where Barbara spent much of her summers hosting family and friends. She enjoyed fishing and spending time with all of her grandchildren.

Barbara had a love for watching sports including tennis (which she played in high school), golf, football and basketball. Most specifically she had a passion for University of Arizona sports. She was a devoted fan that traveled to many away games from 1980-2005. This was a bond that she also shared with her brother and grandchildren.

Barbara’s family and friends most fondly knew her for her love of Bingo and Slot-Machines. Over the years, she was very successful in beating the odds. She was very generous and believed that she was blessed with the gift of winning so that she could share with those that were in need. In her late years, she suffered from dementia affecting many of her social aspirations.

She is survived by her daughter, Darla (Chris) Greer of Tucson and their children, Brian (Karin), Steven (Katie), Katie (Adam) Grant, Corrin and Bradley; son Thomas Slemmer of Flagstaff his children Amber and Evan, Step-daughter, Jennifer (Chris 2014) Ferrell of Tucson; their children, Olivia and Carter; step-son, John (Cathy) Hunnicutt of Nashville, TN; their children, Gwendolyn, Allison, and Ella; and three great-grandchildren, Kaelin and Raegan Greer and Asher Grant along with Sister Terry Waters and brother Ron Richardson both of Tucson, Arizona.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ernestine Richardson.

A memorial service for Barbara will be held Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at East Lawn Palms Mortuary, 5801 East Grant Road, Tucson, AZ 85712, followed by a reception from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
