Barbara Louise Bush, age 72, of Tucson, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 08, 2019 due to heart failure. She was born on February 02, 1947, in Macon, GA, to Lillie Mae Wilkins and Robert Grady Bush.
Barbara was intelligent, funny and beautiful. She was proud that she graduated with honors and earned her master’s degree at Georgia Southern University to become a special needs teacher while raising four children alone, whom she loved immensely. There was really nothing Barbara could not accomplish once she set her mind to do it. She enjoyed teaching and often went above and beyond to help her students reach their full potential.
Barbara’s life was illuminated by her love of travel and adventure. She enjoyed beach destinations with the sun beaming down on her face and the sand between her toes. In addition to her love of travel, she obtained her private pilot instrument rating and was a certified scuba diver. Barbara was fierce and never backed down from a challenge. She always told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. Her spirit impacted everything and everyone around her.
She is survived by her longtime companion Nancy Smith; her two sons, Brian Shirley and Bobby Sellers; two daughters, Angela Sutton and Stacy Sellers; grandchildren, Megan Mitchell, Matt Shirley, Brooke Febo, Brittany Sutton, Joelle Harvey, Chad Harvey, Chase Mitchell, Autumn Mitchell; plus 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Homer Lee Williams Jr.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
