Arthur Lloyd Spicer Sr. died in Tucson, Arizona, on January 10, 2017, from Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on October 10, 1929, to Rixey and Ruth Spicer. Art served 20 years in the U.S Air Force mainly in firefighting and rescue. Durinig the Koren Conflict and Cold War he served at Strategic Air Command Bases Sidi Slimane in Morroco and Elisen Air Force Base near Fairbanks Alaska, he also served a remote duty tour at a remote early-warning radar site in the Alaskan interior. During the Vietnam conflict he served at an overseas Tactical Air Command base. From a rescue helicopter Art jumped into the Mediterranean Sea to rescue two British pilots. He retired and remained in Tucson, where he served a 2nd career at Hughes Aircraft Company. Art married the former Laura Engebretsen (the Love of his Life) and they celebrated their 64th anniversary last year. He was known as an outdoors man and avid hunter and taught his sons and grandsons to enjoy and respect the sport. He was a member of Sabino Road Baptist Church, where he was baptized. Survivors include his sons Arthur Jr., Kelly, and Lindsey; daughter Krystal Clark; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. . Gathering is Saturday, Jan 14th at 9am followed by a Memorial Service, 10:00 am at Sabino Road Baptist Church in Tucson at 2710 N. Sabino Canyon Rd, Tucson, AZ 85715. Grave service at 11:30am at East Lawn Cemetery. Reception at Sabino Road Baptist at 1pm. Flowers can be sent to Sabino Road Baptist Church.
