Loving and Devoted Pops and Grandpa
Tony Gamboa, Born on April 12, 1961 in Zapiguri, Durango, Mexico (Santiago Papasquiaro, Dgo) passed away on June 24, 2023 in Tucson, AZ. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Maria Candelaria Gamboa (Cande); Parents Guillermo and Rosa Gamboa, sisters Angelina and Adela, and brother Guillermo Gamboa. He is survived by his children Denice, Caroline, and Mark Anthony; His grandchildren Jazmin, Anastasia, Valentina, and Nelson; his siblings Jose, Aide, Eduardo, Federico, Elva, and Gustavo; and dozens of nieces and nephews.
Tony, Pops aka Grandpa, was raised in both Durango, Mexico and Chicago, IL. traveling back and forth between homes with his family throughout his adolescence. Tony was the youngest of 10 children, he is known as "the cool Tio '', growing up alongside his nieces and nephews. Tony would say he met Cande, the love of his life, twice: as pre-teens in Santiago, separated by her move to the US, only for the universe to unexpectedly reunite them as teenagers in Chicago. They married young and a few years later had their first daughter Denice. Tony's career moved them across the US to the desert of Tucson, AZ, where his family grew, adding two more children, his sweet Caroline and his baby boy Mark Anthony.
Tony was many things: loving, kind, giving, patient, and soft spoken...yet steadily waiting for the chance to crack a joke or drop an unexpected comment. His "dad jokes" were unmatched. Tony was a math genius and handyman extraordinaire; Pops could build or fix anything. Tony loved music, dancing, and sharing a good meal with family and friends; always ready to throw something on the grill. Tony enjoyed traveling and being outdoors from hiking, fishing, and hunting to boating, jet skiing, and riding quads. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, he gleamed with pride and joy every second he spent with them.
Tony possessed a remarkable entrepreneurial spirit from a young age. He embarked on various business ventures in his life building successful businesses including Mex-Sharp, Precise Tool Engineering, and Herramientas Demarca (Denice, Mark, Caroline) in Hermosillo Mexico; that not only provided for his family but also created opportunities for others. His relentless work ethic and innovative mindset served as an inspiration to all who knew him. Even in his last days, he was making plans to begin a new business venture to provide for his family; he would give us the Universe if he could.
Pops will be immensely missed by many family, friends, and colleagues, but especially by his children and grandchildren. Despite the recent obstacles with his health, he always remained incredibly strong and hopeful. He was known as the Miracle Man by his doctors, beating the odds and doing it all for his family. Although we planned for many more years with him, this past year was a blessing; it was amazing to see how strong he could be just to have a little more time with us, a true act of Love. We are forever grateful for the incredible loving and hard working dad we were blessed with. He is now reunited once again with our mom, where they can rest in eternal peace and watch over our family together.
Denice, Caroline, and Mark wish to extend their sincere thanks and deep gratitude to family and friends for all expressions of sympathy, acts of kindness and generosity during this difficult time. We love you all.
