Sra. Ana Maria Rojas was a positive influence in my life.  She was a hard worker.  Whenever there was something to do that she could do, she would do it, whether it was doing the dishes, preparing the food or putting things away.  In the short time I knew her, she was always happy and joking around with me.  I was talking about Guatemala and she asked about Guata-pejor (Guata-worse in Spanish since “mala” means bad.  I thought this was very sharp of her).  I was joking with her daughter and sister about going dancing and doing the Cha Cha and she perked up and asked, “What about me? I want to go dancing too.”  We all laughed.  She did not want to miss out.  Sometimes I would act up and she was told to slap me.  She would take my hand into hers and gently pat my hand.  Her hands were so soft that it encouraged me to act up again.  I was called a lot of things in her home but my favorite was when her son, Paul, testing her mind, asked her of me, “Who is that?” She responded simply, “A friend of the house.”  One time when I was acting up, I said, “I'm a bad boy (Soy Malcriado)”.  She gave me my best advice and said, “Well then, be a good boy (sea bien-criado).”  I will miss her but now she has graduated this life and can do the Cha Cha with her husband, Mario, in heaven.

La señora Ana María Rojas fue una influencia positiva en mi vida. Ella fue muy trabajadora. Cada vez que había algo que hacer que ella podía hacer, lo hacía, ya sea lavando los platos, preparando la comida o guardando las cosas.  En el corto tiempo que la conocí, ella siempre estaba feliz y bromeando conmigo.  Estaba hablando de Guatemala y ella me preguntó por Guata-pejor. Estaba bromeando con su hija y hermana sobre ir a bailar y hacer el Cha-cha-cha y ella se animó y preguntó: "¿Qué hay de mí? Quiero ir a bailar también. "Todos nos reímos.  Ella no quiere perder la oportunidad.  Algunas veces me molestaba y me ordenaban a “Pégale mami, pégale”. Ella tomaría mi mano en la suya y acaricie suavemente mi mano. Sus manos eran tan suaves que me animaron a actuar de nuevo. Me llamaron muchas nombres en su casa, pero mi favorito fue cuando su hijo, Pablo, puso a prueba su mente, le preguntó de mí, "¿Quién es ese?" Respondió simplemente, "Un amigo de la casa".  Me gustó mucho ese nombre.  Una vez, cuando estaba actuando mal, dije: "Soy Malcriado". Ella me dio mi mejor consejo y me dijo: "Bueno, entonces, sea bien criado". La extrañaré pero ahora se ha graduado de esta vida y puede hacer el cha-cha-cha con su esposo, Mario, en el cielo.
