Allan Turner was born in Springvale Maine to Stanley and Henrietta (“GT”) Turner on December 15, 1927. He had two siblings—Ralph and Elaine. Allan was a strong three-sport high school athlete. He entered the Navy near the end of World War II and served as ship postmaster. Post-war he went to Middlebury College through the GI Bill. He met his future bride, Virginia Hubbard (“Ginger”) in Boston and they were married on September 18, 1954, and lived happily together until Ginger’s passing in November 2020. Allan and Ginger raised three children—Steven, Diane, and Dean.
Throughout his life, family was first. He also was mentally engaged with business and sports. He loved watching college sports, particularly football and basketball and knew the standings and recent scores of all the major college teams. He and Ginger were avid tennis players for much of their lives. They never traveled extensively, as they were content to entertain family at the ranch in Tucson every Thanksgiving and during other family events.
This happy existence lasted well over six decades until Ginger began to be hobbled by Alzheimer’s disease, but even then, they were happy with Allan determined to take care of Ginger with his only worry being that he might pass before her. He took wonderful care of Ginger as her disease progressed, never leaving her side.
After Ginger passed, Allan went through a period of loneliness losing his life partner of sixty-six years, but he took solace in family affairs and watching sports. He was mentally able up to the last few months of his life.
Allan was well-liked by virtually everyone who encountered him and very well loved by his family. He will be missed, but he leaves us with many wonderful memories for us to keep him in our hearts.
