Alice Leona Walker left this world peacefully on Sunday morning, December 18th, 2011. Alice, nicknamed “Pat” as a child, was born in Buffalo, Missouri on October 23, 1922, and her parents were John and Lena Williams. She was part of a large, loving family and she had three sisters and two brothers. Shortly after graduating high school, Pat moved to California to stay with her older sister, Vera, and a short time later worked as one of the ‘Rosie the Riveters’ in a defense plant during World War II. After the war, she met her husband, John G. Walker, recently discharged from the Army Air Corp, and they were married in Riverside, California in August, 1945. Pat and John had an interesting and exciting life and travelled extensively, as John re-enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed in various overseas posts during his military career, including Portugal, Turkey and Spain. They had two sons, Johnny and Ronald, who both benefited greatly from these various overseas living experiences. After John’s retirement from the Air Force, they remained in Spain and opened a popular upscale and successful restaurant in downtown Madrid, called the Chalet Suizo.
When Pat eventually settled in Tucson, Arizona, in 1975, she worked for many years as a successful real estate agent for Century 21 Realty. She was very active in the Women’s Auxiliary of the VFW and had many friends there. Pat was a charming, gracious and cultured lady, whose inner spirit made her beloved by everyone she met. She is survived by her husband, John, their two sons, Johnny and Ronald, two sisters, Gladys Barrett and Jean Seaborne, granddaughter Danielle Bebout and great-granddaughter Marya Bebout. She was a shining light in the lives of her family, and will be sorely missed by them all.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 22nd, at East Lawn Chapel, 5801 E Grant Road, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/donate (or call 1 800 272 3900).
