William (Bill) B. Maurer, 80 of Mableton formerly from the Duluth, John's Creek area, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011. after battling Parkinson's Disease for the last 6 years. He was born on April 3, 1931 in Louisville, Kentucky to Roy Vincent and Julia Free Maurer. He lost his father at an early age and relocated to his mother's family home in Greenwood, SC where he graduated from Greenwood High in 1949. He spent 4 years in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He then attended Oglethorpe and graduated from Mercer Southern School of Pharmacy with a B.S. degree in 1957. He was a pharmacist for 48 years with 26 years spent in the Sandy Springs area. he was the former owner of Howell Mill Pharmacy in Atlanta from 1969-1978. Survivors include his wife of 29 Years, Janie Elizabeth, daughters Jana Maurer of Atlanta and Kim (and Tim) Shiflett, grandchildren Mason and Nicholas of Marietta; sons, Burl Maurer of Casper, WY, and Jeff (and Judi) Maurer, grandchildren Heather and Dustin of Dallas, GA, daughters Gina Thompson (Robi), grandchildren, Wesley, Nikki, and Austin and one great grandson, Breylon of Lithia Springs, and Melanie Bonner, grandchildren, Drew and Tyler of Suwanee, a brother, Gwynne (and Trisha) Maurer of DeBary, FL and a sister-in-law, Judy Maurer of Hilton Head, SC. Also surviving are adopted family members, David and Meg Papp, grandchildren Alex and Carson of Dawsonville. Preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Vincent B. and George H. Maurer
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Floral Hills Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
