Bill grew up on the family farm in Cordele & would often tell stories of growing crops, working on the farm, and “going into town.” As a teenager, he worked at the butcher counter in a local grocery store. Here, is where he met the love of his life, Lib. He enlisted in the Navy, was stationed in Pensacola and proudly served during World War II. While married, Bill & Lib lived in Macon, GA, Danville, VA, Wilmington, NC, Stone Mountain, GA, and Snellville, GA. For many years, Bill & Lib were active members of Clarkston Baptist Church, where Bill was a deacon, director of Sunday School, and coached the church softball league. He retired from working for 40 years at Sears Roebuck and spent his retired years fishing, working in the yard, and golfing. For many years, Bill enjoyed the company of his Sunday School class at Grayson First Baptist Church. His dear friends gathered weekly for breakfast & fellowship, a time Bill cherished greatly. Bill was a proud grandfather & great grandfather, lovingly known as “Papa.” Bill always attended as many church & school programs, graduations, and ball games of his grandkids as he could. The most important thing to Bill was his relationship with the Lord.
Bill was a God-fearing man of prayer and could often be found reading his Bible. He was quick to share his faith and unashamed to share the Gospel with those around him. Bill was a kind neighbor, a smiling friend, and a generous servant. His signature smile & laughter will be remembered & missed by many.
A memorial service will be held March 1, 2024 at 1:00pm at Grayson First Baptist Church. Family will receive friends prior to the service, from 11:00am-12:30pm. Reverend Steve Hammack will officiate & all are welcome to attend & celebrate Bill’s life. A graveside will be held following the service at Floral Hills Funeral Home in Tucker.
